Today we are featuring a very famous woman, one whose name you should all know, Sally Ride. Sally Ride was the first woman to go into space, as the operator of a robotic arm on the STS-7 space shuttle mission. She used the robotic arm to place satellites in orbit on two missions into space, one in 1983 and 1984. After Ride left NASA she became a professor at University of California and invented NASA's EarthKAM project, which allows middle school students to take photos of the Earth using a camera on the International Space Station. Ride continued to help students, particularly girls, to pursue math and science until her death in 2012. She remains a pioneer for women in technology to this day.
